Coral Bay
Coral Bay, on Cyprus’ south west coast, was a bit of a latecomer to tourism – you’ll still find plenty of rustic tavernas and untouched olive groves here. That said, the resort has 2 beaches and plenty of bars and restaurants – not to mention Paphos just up the road – so you won’t feel out on a limb.
Totted up, Coral Bay lays claim to 600 metres of golden, Blue Flag-winning sand. The main beach is a pale curl of sand fringed by limestone cliffs, and has a couple of bars and tavernas dotted along its edge. There’s also windsurfing, catamarans trips and dive excursions up for grabs. And just a short walk away, in its own little bay, is Corallia Beach, the chill-out stretch. With its shallow water, it’s perfect for toddlers.
Family-friendly town
Families are really well looked after in Coral Bay. Take the rustic tavernas along the main strip – they serve up first-rate seafood as well as simple kids’ menus. And, come evening, there’s plenty of family-friendly entertainment, ranging from tribute shows to karaoke sessions.
Close to Paphos
A 30-minute bus ride away is Paphos, a time-weathered town with more ancient sites than the History Channel. The archaeological park, with its Roman mosaics, is a must-see. And it’s round the corner from the chic, café-lined harbor where a crumbling Byzantine castle stares out to sea.
