8 Tips to Enjoy Your House More

You’ll spend more time in your house than any other space in the world during the years you call it home. There’s something about coming home to a clean house that instantly lowers your stress level. Doing small things every day to maintain order in your home keeps you feeling organized and way less mentally cluttered.

1) CELEBRATE SMALL LUXURIES

Even if your home isn’t exactly a Pinterest fantasy, make do with what you have. Light a candle, put on a simmer pot, or spring for a really nice hand soap or tea towel to make your space feel special.

2) DEDICATE ONE DAY A WEEK TO HOUSEWORK

Your home should be a place you enjoy, not where you exist in various states of clean-up. Try allocating one day for big stuff like vacuuming, washing and dusting. Plus, now that you’re tidying little by little, your big clean won’t seem as daunting.

3) CHANGE ALL THE SENSES OF YOUR HOME, NOT JUST THE VISUAL ONES

Your senses all react to your home and how it is taken care of. Smell is a highly influential one. While you can clean and sanitize, some smells are just natural from the materials the home is made as well as from your living there. But you can change the smells with easy to use items and tools. Incense is a simple, effective way to change the aroma of a room or home. If smoky incense is offensive, however, then try fragrance emitters. You can get these in any store and plug them into your wall socket. The smells come in different choices as well.

4) KEEP CLUTTER MINIMAL

The tower of books in the corner! The bits and pieces crowding every surface! If this sounds like your home, you’re not alone. The first step to being truly happy in your space is to figure out what to keep—and what to let go. A cluttered room is much more likely to produce, and contribute to, a cluttered mind.

5) SHOW YOUR PERSONALITY

When deciding how a room should look, you might feel taken in by the cool new design trend you saw in a magazine.. But  making sure your house aligns with your personality is key to feeling happy in your space.

6) CREATE A CALMING SPACE

Finding a “sanctuary” in your home gives your mind a place to go to rest and restore, helping you feel more at peace. It doesn’t have to be a whole room—it could be a reading nook, a knitting or craft space, or even a “home spa” in your bathroom.

7) BRING NATURE INSIDE

Studies have shown nature to be calming to our psyche, so one way to feel happier in your space is to bring in plants or flowers. “Bringing nature into your home definitely has powerful psychological effects.Houseplants have the added benefit of helping to refresh the air in a room, making you healthier

8) MAKE YOUR SPACE MORE SOCIAL

Your home should also be a place where you feel comfortable inviting friends over. Consider buying home items that lend themselves to socializing: a grill for barbecues, a fire pit to gather around, or board games for game night.
